I graduated in 2002 from the University of Palermo in Psychology (clinical and community track – grade 110 with honors) with a thesis in the field of psycho-oncology, participating in the observation, and subsequently the conduction, of a psycho-functional rehabilitation group for laryngectomized patients at the LILT (Italian League for the Fight Against Cancer) in Palermo.

Registered with the Order of Psychologists of the Sicilian Region since 2004 (n.2864), I then obtained my specialization in psychotherapy from the Institute of Gestalt H.C.C. Italy (Palermo branch) in 2008.

In 2007, I earned a second-level master’s degree in Psycho-oncology from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, and in 2009 I completed the childbirth psychoprophylaxis training according to the Spagnuolo Lobb method.

My work experience was developed at the Psychology Unit of the S. Bambino Hospital in Catania (from 2002 to 2013), where I performed individual clinical activities, obstetric psychoprophylaxis, training for healthcare personnel for ECM, psycho-oncology with psychological support in the ward and for healthcare workers in high burn-out risk areas, and conduction of monosymptomatic groups.

I deepened my knowledge of eating disorders, particularly obesity related to compulsive eating through an agreement with the Dietetics and Nutrition Disorders Unit of the same Hospital, for which I conducted a weekly group of patients, first at the Service and then privately, for a total of 7 years.

Most recently, I held a one-year position for the project ‘Psychological rehabilitation in critical departments oncology, cardiology, rheumatology, and perinatal death’ (PSN 2010 objective projects) within the Adult Medical Oncology DH at the University Hospital “Policlinico-Vittorio Emanuele” in Catania.

I have worked in the field of training as an instructor in ECM courses at the same Hospital:

  • The new needs of patients and the responses of the operator and the healthcare system”, 2008
  • Management for coordination in the healthcare area”, 2007
  • Basic triage course for adults and children”, 2006

In 2011, I worked as an instructor at E.N.F.A.P. Catania for the training update course modules in Communication and Managerial Training.

I integrated my gestalt training with Jungian and Hillmanian analysis, attending a Biennial Laboratory of Archetypal Psychology at the IMPA (Mediterranean Institute of Archetypal Psychology) in Catania, alongside a second personal training analysis and individual and group supervisions.

Furthermore, I attended psychodrama workshops with M. Gasseau and G. Gasca at the APRAGIP in Turin.

In the city of Catania, I often organize and conduct experiential seminars and conferences on psychological topics, open to the public, which have so far taken place at a non-profit association of which I was a member and in some bookstores, including La Feltrinelli and Cavallotto.

I have collaborated with some radio stations in the conducting of weekly or biweekly segments.

I currently practice full-time in my private studio, primarily dealing with anxiety disorders and panic attacks, affective dependence, relational disorders, eating disorders, and couples therapy.

We psychologists—like all human beings—must be ‘modest’.
Our knowledge and understanding of the human soul are very limited.
The miracle of the soul is far greater than our ability to comprehend it.

professionalism and dedication

I chose to embark on a psychotherapy journey because I wanted to rediscover my “better part.” I learned that not all of our past or present experiences (gestalt) are meant to close or that it’s possible to avoid the pain, the anger that life often brings back, but when greater awareness is gained, we are still capable of rising and above all accepting and living our pain as an important part of us, just as joy. All this could not have happened if I had not met Dr. Alaimo, whom I must thank for her reassuring smiles, professionalism, and dedication she has shown towards me.

I couldn’t see

Group therapy has been like wearing prescription glasses for me, where I couldn’t see clearly, where there was some darkness… with them, I’ve looked, examined, Seen, and Seen again… Now I know these “glasses” will accompany me for Life.

a valid help

I have always given, given, given because I believed it was my precise duty.
Then, by chance, slowly and with valuable help, my way of relating to others changed and… I finally understood that I exist! Thank you.

she made me rediscover myself

The psychotherapy journey I went through helped me rediscover myself, that part of me I could no longer express. It was beneficial in facing certain life choices, both daily and otherwise. I began a different relationship with my family and friends because I could fully express myself, having freed myself from the fear of always pleasing everyone else and never myself. The journey gave me the courage to become stronger, freer, and to always face anything, positive or negative, and always find the best in it.

she managed to “take me by the hand”

The psychotherapy experience with Dr. Silvia Alaimo proved immediately “powerful”… it led me to “see” other paths and gain a new vision of myself. The journey bore fruit by revealing a part of me I didn’t know and that brought about change. Now, beyond the black and white, I also see the grey. She managed to “guide me by the hand” towards my freedom and thus towards a new awareness of who I was, who I am, and who I want to be. A heartfelt THANK YOU.

to shed light on oneself

SHEDDING LIGHT. One learns gradually to shed light on oneself, to illuminate the people and things around you. You connect with your own essence, removing veils, clarifying every part of your being, learning to recognize emotions, sensations, and to listen to what your inner self feels, which the rational mind often rationalizes and tends to overlook. You learn to recognize yourself and to understand every aspect of yourself better, enabling you to gain greater awareness and strength in fully embracing Life itself!

A “happily resolved case” of therapy does not constitute a “cure”
in the sense of representing a finished product, but this expression means
that the patient now possesses those means and tools that will allow him
to face problems whenever they arise.
He is now able to move freely from the traces of acts begun but not completed.
